Each year the International Visual Literacy Association awards a handful of individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of visual literacy. These awards recognize achievements within the academic, creative and professional realms of visual literacy.
INTERNATIONAL VISUAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES
THE EDUCATION AWARD WINNER
Virtual Conference 2020 -Domenic Screnci, Former Senior Advisor for Digital Learning and Innovation and the Former Executive Director for Educational Technology, Training, and Outreach in Information Services and Technology at Boston University, was awarded the International Visual Literacy Association’s (IVLA) Education Award at the 49th annual conference held virtually this past September.
The Education Award is given only when merited to IVLA members in recognition of significant personal contribution to visual literacy through exemplary teaching, educational outreach, and/or the development of model curricula and other educational materials.
Domenic Screnci is receiving this award for his consistent promotion of visual literacy and participation in visual literacy instruction throughout his career.
Screnci is only one of nine scholars to win the Education Award since 1994. Winners are selected by an awards committee comprised of IVLA members.

THE SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION AWARD WINNER:
Virtual Conference 2020 -Michelle Wendt, Master of Instructional Technology, is the Technology Integration Specialist for the Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center at Stockton University and the current president of the International Visual Literacy Association. She was awarded the Special Contribution Award at the 49th Annual IVLA Conference held virtually this past September.
The Special Contribution Award, given only when merited, honors persons, institutions, or organizations making outstanding contributions either to the Association or to the furthering of visual literacy in research, education, publication, or creative products.
Michelle Wendt is receiving this award for her outstanding leadership of and dedication to the International Visual Literacy Association since she joined the Association in 2017. Michelle has worked relentlessly on the creation of the new Association website and the process of transitioning the Association to the new website platform. She also helped plan, structure, and run the 49th Annual IVLA Conference that was held virtually this past September. As the current President of the Association, Michelle has demonstrated immense leadership and passion for the promotion of visual literacy.

This is the highest award that IVLA gives. Established in 1977, in John Debes own words, it is reserved for people who have been strong leaders both in building and maintaining the Association and have been active in promoting visual literacy outside the organization. It recognizes a long-term active commitment to the advancement of understanding in the field of visual communication as well as a proven and exceptional commitment to the organization. It is given only when occasion merits it.

This award, named for two previous editors of the Selected Readings, seeks to honor the paper that best helps contribute to the definition of the study of visual literacy. This award is given only in years where sufficient contributions have been made to the Selected Readings in this area. The editors determine this award.
